The Brunswick Academy Varsity Football are State Championship Bound this past Saturday, November 11th! The Vikings will travel to Dinwiddie Sports Complex to take on Broadwater Academy. The Vikings are still ranked Number 1 in the Virginia Independent School Football League- 8 man, with a 12-0 record. They are having a perfect season!

On Saturday October 28th the Vikings hosted Broadwater Academy and recognized the fall Senior Athletes on the Dennis A. Moore Football Field. The Vikings dominated the football field and defeated the Vikings 56-6. The stats from the game are the following: Demarion Whitfield-Smith had 8 rushes for a total of 134 yards with 2 touchdowns and 1 touchdown reception of 55 yards. Brendan Holloway had 3 rushes for 30 yards and 1 touchdown pass for 55 yards. JP Powell had 8 rushes for 126 yards and 4 touchdowns. Chris Parrish had 1 rush for 30 yards, 2 interceptions and returned 1 interception for a touchdown. Chris Parrish also had 5 tackles and his brother Nick Parrish had 10 tackles.   

The Vikings hosted 2023 VISFL State Semifinal Playoff game on November 2^nd against rivals Kenston Forest School. The Vikings crushed the Kavaliers with a 84-14 victory! The stats from the game are the following: JP Powell had 13 rushes for a total of 331 yards and 6 touchdowns. Jamir Brown had 2 rushes for a total of 21 yards. Demarion Whitfield-Smith had 6 rushes for 88 yards and 3 touchdowns. Carter Early was 12 for 12 on Extra Point kicks. Jordan Jackson had 2 interceptions and Ashton Jackson had 1 interception. Marvin Williams and Hunter Little each had a touchdown on a blocked punt. Chris Parrish had 11 tackles, Nick Parrish had 10 tackles, Carter Early had 4 tackles and Nathan Talbert had 4 tackles.

Brunswick Academy held their 2023 Homecoming Football Game on October 20, 2023 on the Dennis A. Moore Football Field. During halftime, the 2023 Homecoming Court was recognized, and Miss Sara King was crowned 2023 Homecoming Queen. Sara King is the daughter of Mr. Tommy King, Class of 2000 and Ms. Amy King, Class of 2000. Earlier in the day, during the Homecoming Pep Rally, the 2023 Homecoming King was crowned. The 2023 Homecoming King was Mr. Nicholas Parrish, son of Bill, Class of 1988 and Rebecca, Class of 1998, Parrish. The 2023 Crown Bearer was Michael Beckett Daniel, son of Mrs. Holton Ariel Thomas Daniel, Class of 2009. He is the grandson of Mrs. Pamela Loraine Phillips Thomas, Class of1983 and Mr. Raymond Alexander Thomas, Class of 1981.The 2023 Flower Girl was Lily Faye Hawley, daughter of Mrs. Julie Kristin Baird Hawley, Class of 2005, and granddaughter of Mrs. Rita Faye Edwards Baird, Class of 1972.

 

 

The Brunswick Academy Varsity Football has been on fire for the last 3 weeks! The Vikings are Number 1 in the Virginia Independent School Football League- 8 man, with a 7-0 record. The Vikings will travel to Blessed Sacrament Huguenot School, in Powhatan, Virginia on October 6th to take on the Knights at 7 P.M. The Vikings will then travel to Blackstone, Virginia October 12^th to take on rivals Kenston Forest School at 7 P.M.

On September 14th the Vikings traveled to Courtland, Virginia to take on the Southampton Academy Raiders. The Vikings brought home a huge win of 54-6 against the rival school! The stats from the game are the following: Jerry Powell had 7 rushes for 125 yards, an interception and 2 touchdowns. Chris Parrish had 5 rushes for a total of 45 yards and 1 touchdown. Demarion Whitfield-Smith had 11 rushes for a total of 151 yards, 4 touchdowns and returned a fumble for 40 yards that resulted in a touchdown. Jordan Jackson had an interception against the Raiders as well. Jamir Brown had 8 tackles, Jackson Moody had 6 tackles and Nick Parrish had 14 tackles for the Vikings.

September 21st the Vikings hosted Richmond Christian School on the Dennis A. Moore Football Field, with a final score of 50-0. The Vikings had a huge win against the Warriors! The stats from the game are the following: Brendan Holloway had 1 rush for 8 yards and 1 touchdown. Iszhown Bragg had 1 rush for 26 yards and 1 touchdown. Jordan Jackson had 2 interceptions and returned both for touchdowns. JP Powell had 1 rush for 31 yards and 1 touchdown. Demarion Whitfield-Smith had 1 rush for 16 yards and 1 touchdown. Nick Parrish and Jamir Brown each had 5 tackles.

September 28^th the Vikings hosted the Fuqua School Falcons. The Vikings dominated the Dennis A. Moore Football Field with a huge win of 49-6 over the Falcons. The stats from the game are the following: Carter Early had 4 rushes for a total of 27 yards. Demarion Whitfield-Smith had 3 rushes for a total of 63 yards and 1 touchdown. Nathan Talbert was 1 for 2 passing for 6 yards and 1 touchdown. Talbert also had 4 rushes for 22 yards and 6 tackles. JP Powell had 3 rushes for a total of 73 yards and 1 touchdown. Brendan Holloway was 3 for 4 passing for 115 yards and 2 touchdowns. Dylan Pair had 1 rush for 2 yards and one touchdown. Chris Parrish had 3 receptions for 82 yards and 3 touchdowns. Evan Baird had 1 reception for 4 yards and a touchdown. Iszhown Bragg had 1 reception for 44 yards. Nick Parrish had 5 tackles; Jamir Brown had 6 tackles and Marvin Williams had 4 tackles.

The Brunswick Academy JV Volleyball team is ranked 9-1 overall and 4-0 in the VCC Conference. The Lady Vikings have had a very successful season thus far and have big plans to continue being first in the conference. They play hard and work very well together. September 19th the Lady Vikings traveled to Blackstone, Virginia to take on the Kenston Forest Kavalier’s. The Lady Vikings took the win in 2 sets (25-9) & (25-21). The Vikings then traveled September 21st to Courtland, Virginia to take on the Southampton Academy Raiders. The Vikings again came home with a win in 2 sets (25-16) & (25-16). The Vikings hosted Central Virginia Homeschool Athletic Association on September 25th and took the win in 2 sets (25-21) & (25-22). The Lady Vikings then traveled to Farmville, Virginia to take on Fuqua School and the Lady Falcons. In this VCC matchup the Vikings took the win in 2 sets (25-23) & (25-15). The Lady Vikings are under a new coaching staff with Doug Biggs as head coach and his assistant Michelle Fadool.

The Brunswick Academy Middle School Volleyball team is 6-2 overall. This week the Lady Vikings hosted Central Virginia Homeschool Athletic Association on Monday September 27th. They took the win in 3 sets with scores of (18-25), (25-18) & (15-6). Tuesday, September 28th the team traveled to Fuqua School to take on the Lady Falcons and brought home the win in 3 sets (25-16), (16-25) & (17-15). Thursday September 28th the team traveled to Chesterfield, Virginia to take on Banner Christian School. The team again came home with the win in 2 sets (25-10) & (25-16). This team has competed and learned a lot about the game so far this season. We look forward to seeing them do great things. They are under the direction of a new head coach this year- Michelle Fadool and her assistant Doug Biggs.

The Brunswick Academy Cross Country team is having an awesome start to their year. They competed September 14th and September 21st in 2 VCC Cross Country meets thus far. The team will travel to Farmville, Virginia on September 28th for their next meet being hosted by the Fuqua School in Farmville, Virginia. The Vikings boys' team finished 1st place in both of their previous meets. Christian Lecher has led the boys team finishing 1st in both meets. Brady Burke and Cameron Lynch have finished in the top 3 for both meets. Aiden Powell has finished in the top 5. This is the first year that "sister duo", Sara and Emily King have competed. Emily finished in 9th place at Banner and Sara finished 14th. The boys' team has a great chance to finish 1st in the conference if they keep up the hard work.

 

Brunswick Academy was happy to celebrate one of its most time-honored traditions on Friday August 25th, the Senior-First Grade March. It was a beautiful morning as the Class of 2024 ushered in a brand new group of first graders-- the future Class of 2035. The school gym was filled with parents, grandparents and friends sharing in the excitement. The Big & Little Vikes provided one another with a sweet memento that they can hold on to for years to come. We can't wait to see how these new Big Vike/Little Vike bonds grow this year!

A combined Baccalaureate Service and Commencement Exercise will be held at Brunswick Academy on Saturday, May 27, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. The guest speaker will be Reverend Lee Foster of Tabernacle Baptist Church in South Hill, Virginia. Twenty-six seniors will be graduating.

The valedictorian is Meredith Clair Greene, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kevin Ray Greene of Baskerville. The salutatorian is Matthew James Gullivan, son of Mr. and Mrs. Timothy James Gullivan of Bracey. Meredith Greene will be attending Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Matthew Gullivan will be attending Southside Virginia Community College.

Fifteen seniors are children of Brunswick Academy alumni. Seven of those seniors are the grandchildren of Brunswick Academy alumni. The senior class has one fourth-generation student, Mariah Gabrielle Thomas.

On Thursday, March 2, 2023, Senior Thomas Michael (Tommy) Landsnes signed his official letter of intent to continue his baseball career at Allegheny College in PA. Tommy is the son of Deborah Landsnes of Henrico, VA and David Landsnes of Spotsylvania, VA. Tommy transferred to Brunswick Academy his Junior year and received VCC 2nd Team All Conference and VCC All Tournament for Varsity baseball in 2022. He was also a member of the VCC 2022 Varsity Baseball Championship team.Tommy has played for numerous travel ball teams over his highschool career. Tommy plans to major in Exercise Science at Allegheny.

On Thursday September 15, 2022 Brunswick Academy’s Varsity Football team hosted their second home game of the season against Chincoteague High School for their fifth game of the 2022 season. The Vikings ended the game with a victory of 62-14. The Vikings are continuing their season with another strong win at home! The Vikings next game is Saturday, September 24, 2022 at Brunswick Academy versus The Covenant School at 7:00 PM. 

Stats from the game are as followed: 

• J.P. Powell had 10 rushes for a total of 207 yards and 3 touchdowns. 
• DJ Smith had 5 rushes for a total of 171 yards and 3 touchdowns.
• Nick Parrish had 2 rushes with a total of 29 yards and 1 touchdown. He also had 6 tackles and caused a fumble.  
• Hunter Little had 1 rush for 15 yards.
• Chris Parrish had 1 reception for a total of 35 yards. 
• J.W. Watson had 4 tackles for loss and 8 tackles total. He also had a 32 yard interception returned for a touchdown.
• Jordan Jackson had 4 tackles and a 50 yard interception returned for a touchdown.
• Garrett Cobb had a total of 6 tackles with 2 tackles being for loss. 
• Carter Early had 1 touchback and was 8 for 9 on extra point attempts.

 

On Friday September 2, 2022 Brunswick Academy’s Varsity Football team traveled to Greenbrier Christian Academy in Chesapeake, VA for their third game of the 2022 season. The Vikings ended the game with a victory of 59-14. The Vikings are continuing their season with another strong win on the road!

Stats from the game are as followed: 

• J.P. Powell had 20 rushes for a total of 272 yards and 5 Touchdowns. 
• DJ Smith had 7 rushes for a total of 166 yards and 2 touchdowns. 
• J.W. Watson had 6 tackles for loss and 10 tackles total. 
• Chris Parrish had 6 tackles. 
• Garrett Cobb had 5 tackles and a fumble recovery. 
• Jackson Moody had 1 tackle for loss and 5 tackles total.  
• Nick Parrish had 5 tackles

On Thursday September 8, 2022 Brunswick Academy’s Varsity Football team hosted their first home game of the season against Quantico High School for their fourth game of the 2022 season. The Vikings ended the game with a victory of 60-8. The Vikings are continuing their season with another strong win at home! The Vikings played again on Thursday, September 15, 2022 at Brunswick Academy versus Chincoteague High School at 6:00 PM.

• J.P. Powell had 3 rushes for a total of 125 yards and 3 touchdowns. 
• DJ Smith had 5 rushes for a total of 63 yards and 2 touchdowns. 
• J.W. Watson had 1 rush for a total of 38 yards and 1 touchdown. He also had 8 total tackles and 5 tackles for loss.
• Chris Parrish had 1 rush with a total of 24 yards. 
• Nick Parrish had 1 rush with a total of 33 yards. 
• Noah Waller had 4 rushes for a total of 43 yards and 1 touchdown.
• Zac Baird had 6 rushes for a total of 56 yards and 1 touchdown.
• Carter Early had 1 rush with a total of 28 yards and kicked 6 Extra Points.
• Nathan Talbert had 1 rush with a total of 22 yards and 1 touchdown.
• Garrett Cobb had 6 total tackles and 2 tackles for loss. 

 

Brunswick Academy was happy to celebrate one of its most time-honored traditions on Friday August 19th, the Senior-First Grade March. It was a beautiful morning as the Class of 2023 ushered in a brand new group of first graders-- the future Class of 2034. The school gym was filled with parents, grandparents and friends sharing in the excitement. The Big & Little Vikes provided one another with a sweet memento that they can hold on to for years to come. We can't wait to see how these new Big Vike/Little Vike bonds grow this year!

The Brunswick Academy Varsity Baseball team had an outstanding year! They were 17-5 overall and 13-3 in the VCC-Virginia Colonial Conference. They were Regular Season and VCC Champions. They beat SA 12-2 to win the VCC Title. They made it to the Div lll State Semifinals and fell short to Carlisle 5-6. Receiving accolades this season are the following:

Brunswick Academy Varsity Soccer finished 4th in the VCC Conference. The Vikings hosted #5 seed KFS in the VCC quarterfinal game and lost out 2-1. They had a fantastic season and were coached by Sigmund Jones and Harrison Jamison.

A combined baccalaureate service and commencement exercise will be held at Brunswick Academy on Saturday, May 28, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. The guest speaker will be

 Dr. Robert L. Rowland III of Smyrna Baptist Church in Dinwiddie, Virginia. Thirty-two seniors will be graduating.

The valedictorian is Jacky Zhu, son of Mrs. Mei C. Li and Mr. Min Y. Zhu of Lawrenceville. Jacky will be attending the College of William and Mary. The salutatorian is Sydney Paige Paul, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Thomas Paul of Emporia. Sydney will be attending James Madison University.

Brunswick Academy will have eight other honor graduates at this year’s Commencement. Lydia Reed Smith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Wayne Smith of South Hill, will be attending the University of Virginia. Bryson Gage Poarch, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Edward Poarch, Jr., of Dinwiddie, will be attending Liberty University. Shana Denise Love, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. David Alexander Love of South Hill, will be attending James Madison University. Alyssa Reina Rivas, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Juan Antonio Rivas of Lawrenceville, will be attending Methodist University. Matthew Robert Moseley, son of Mr. and Mrs. Larry Steve Moseley, Jr., of Emporia, will be attending Southside Virginia Community College. Kacie Lin Keefe, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Todd Eugene Keefe of Rawlings, will be attending Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Faith Elizabeth McLawhorn, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roger Dale McLawhorn, Jr., will be attending the Savannah College of Art and Design. James Harrison Harper, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Gregory Harper of South Hill, will be attending Hampden-Sydney College.

Seventeen seniors are the children of Brunswick Academy alumni. Three of those seniors are the grandchildren of Brunswick Academy alumni.
